No you don't need FLMM, you need only a Fresh/clean Freelancer installtion.

ok i need help i installed freelancer, downloaded the mod, now i have got as far as a screen asking for location of a crean freelancer installation. but when i select location it says this is not a clean install. what am i doind wrong ?

When your Freelancer installation isn't clean install Freelancer new an then it is clean.

This more of a safety precaution, since FLMM tends to corrupt Freelancer installations.

but it is new infact a brand new hdd yesterday so definatly no freelancer except one i have just installed
